STRIVE JUNIOR SWIM

Kids5.jpg

Strive Junior Swimming offers an alternative environment for children and young people aged 6 to 16 to develop their love for being in water.  We deliver non-competitive 'aqua lessons', emphasising growing confidence, competence, fitness, and safety in the water.

Our approach

Our junior swim program is like no other! We have developed a unique approach to equip your young swimmers with all of the aquatic skills and fitness needed for them to safely and fully embrace our Island’s aquatic playground and to keep them loving swimming for longer!

Our qualified and highly experienced coaches offer a non-competitive pathway that brings together swimming technique, aquatic sport, lifesaving, and open water development. We are building our Island’s best aquatic ambassadors!

We offer a safe environment that nurtures confident, kind and respectful swimmers and our teaching techniques encourage curiosity, questioning, and problem-solving in and around our aquatic environments.

Our programme

Our swimming syllabus aligns with the Swim England ‘Learn to Swim’ Framework and we have developed additional ‘extras’ that we believe elevate our programme above others. The syllabus is designed with our Island in mind and making the most of our amazing environment

The four building blocks of our swim programme include:

  • Stroke Development & Fitness

  • Skills in Aquatic Sports (Triathlon, Surfing, Water Polo & Open Water Swimming)

  • Lifesaving & Safety

  • Open Water Swimming (takes place at an open water venue)

Entry requirements

LEARNERS

All children must be aged 6 and above and able to swim on their front and back for a minimum of 25m, without aids. They must also be comfortable spending time out of their depth i.e. in the deeper end of a swimming pool.

EXPERIENCED

Children joining more experienced sessions (typically aged 10+) should already be swimming front crawl competently for at least 4 lengths, and have a strong grasp of all other strokes too.

ADVANCED

For those aged 12-16 who may have attended swimming clubs, have a particular interest in open water swimming or triathlon, and want a place to continue building swim fitness and skill, we recommend our Thursday 4.45pm session, which accommodates more advanced young swimmers.

Joining Strive Junior Swim

Our thriving mini swim school offers limited places because we want to make sure every child has the space and time to learn and develop.  We operate a waiting list and when a space becomes available (because an existing member has moved on), we offer spaces to siblings of existing members first.

As of June 2024, we anticipate a 12 month wait for spaces for ages 6-10.  We have spaces in our sessions for ages 10+, provided children meet the criteria.
